Q. What happens after the interview?
A. The Human Resources department will contact you by telephone or send you an offer letter if you are offered employment. Please remember, all offers are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.
Q. How will I arrange the pre-employment drug test?
A. If you do not live in Key Largo or the immediate area, Human Resources will send you an employment package including information regarding collection site and the date you should take your drug test. A Chain of Custody form will be included in the package. You must take this form with you to the collection site.
Q. How will the drug test result be reported to Ocean Reef Club?
A. By using the Chain of Custody form provided by Human Resources, the test results will automatically be sent to Human Resources within three to five days of the test. We must have received your drug test results before you are able to check into Staff Housing.
Q. Who pays for the pre-employment drug test?
A. The Club will pay for the drug test. However, we use collection sites all over the United States and some sites require payment immediately after the test. If this is the case, bring your receipt when arriving for your first day. You will be reimbursed on your first paycheck.
Q. What is considered the Club's season?
A. Although the Club is open year-round, the official winter season begins in November and ends in May.
Q. How should I plan my move to Key Largo?
A. Time your move. Do not arrive in advance of your arrival date indicated on your offer letter. Only Human Resources can make adjustments to your arrival date. If you arrive earlier than indicated you will have to stay in a local hotel at your own expense.
Q. Will I receive a uniform?
A. In order to make our appearance consistent and professional throughout the organization, some departments offer different uniforms. If your department does provide a uniform, you will be responsible for maintaining your uniform and returning the uniforms issued to you upon separation from the company. The cost for any missing items may be deducted from your final paycheck. Associates are required to bring specific types of shoes to accompany their uniform. Black and/or white non-skid shoes are required.
Q. What kind of personal clothing do employees need to bring?
A. Key Largo, Florida is mostly sunny and warm, with occasional cool or rainy days. Warm days can range from 70 to 85 degrees and cooler days can get down between 45 to 60 degrees. We recommend that you bring plenty of walking shorts, golf-type shirts or T-shirts with no advertisements and of course, swimsuits. You should remember to bring some warm clothing for chillier weather and also bring a rain jacket and umbrella for our occasional rainy days. Ocean Reef Club is a conservative community and has a strict dress code. Members, guests and Associates are not permitted to wear cut-off shorts, tank tops or bike shorts.
Q. How much money should I bring?
A. Plan ahead and bring sufficient funds to cover your start-up expenses and meals. You should receive your first paycheck within two to three weeks of your arrival, so plan your personal finances accordingly.
Q. How often are we paid and on what day?
A. We are paid biweekly. Payday is Thursday.
Q. How will I cash my paychecks?
A. There are three banks within walking distance of staff housing. Ocean Reef Club encourages Associates to have their paychecks directly deposited. The bank on property will cash Ocean Reef Club, Inc. paychecks for a fee.
Q. What identification do I need to bring?
A. The U.S. Government requires we maintain an I-9 form on each Associate. You must bring required identification for the I-9 in order to start employment and move into staff housing! Refer to “List of Acceptable Documents” sheet for required identification.
Q. Is training provided?
A. Every Associate is required to attend orientation, which will familiarize him or her with the policies and procedures of Ocean Reef Club. The department in which an Associate is assigned provides specific job training. In addition, Human Resources also operates a Training Center for Associates who are interested in personal and professional growth.
Q. What should I bring for my room in staff housing?
A. One set of sheets, comforter and pillow are provided for the double bed. You are required to bring your own bath towels for your dorm room. Other suggestions would be an alarm clock and hangers.
Q. Can I bring my car, RV, motorcycle or boat?
A. Associates may bring their car to Ocean Reef Club but you may not bring an RV, motorcycle or boat on property. Associates who will be living in Florida for less than six months should obtain a temporary Florida tag. For more information, call the Monroe County Department of Motor Vehicles at 305.853.3562.
Q. What type of facilities and activities are available?
A. The Florida Keys is well known for the largest living coral reef in the United States. In addition to SCUBA diving, boating, sailing, fishing and water sports, employees enjoy the wondrous climate, the natural beauty and the proximity to the major services and attractions of South Florida, including South Beach.
Staff Housing offers an employee swimming pool, volleyball and basketball courts, and employee lounge including pool table and dart boards. Internet Activities are provided in the Associate lounge.
Q. Where do I eat my meals?
A. We have an Associate café which serves hot meals, deli sandwiches, grill items, soups and salads. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A meal can cost anywhere from $1.00 to $3.50 depending on the food ordered. In the evenings, Associates can purchase food and cocktails in the “Wreck Hall” bar. Associates must be 21 years old to purchase cocktails, wine or beer. The “Reef Hut” restaurant is also open to Associates. Homemade Italian dishes are made to order.
Q. Are there food supplies for the vegetarian diet?
A. The employee cafeteria features one vegetarian entree each day. There is a grocery store on property and another 15 miles from Ocean Reef Club.
Q. How will I receive personal mail?
A. If checking into Staff Housing, your new address will be:

You will be assigned a box number. The US Postal office will deliver letters to your box and large packages to the Staff Housing office.
