Golf and sailfishing – the two most popular recreational pastimes on The Reef
 – will once again be combined in the 17th annual Grand Masters competition.

The tournament format calls for a four-person team to compete in an afternoon of
 golf followed by a day of offshore fishing
.

This is also a tournament qualifier for the ORC Sailfish Champions of the year and a chance to
 fish in the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica.

GOLF FORMAT  4-player Scramble
The four players that golf must be the four that fish. All players tee off and choose the best ball.  From there the group will continue to choose the best shot and play from that location until the ball is holed.  Players may place their ball within one club length of the chosen spot, no closer to the hole. If the chosen spot is in the rough, hazard, bunker, etc., the ball must remain within that same condition.  Once on the green, the ball may be placed within two inches of the chosen spot, no closer to the hole.

Note:The Team must use each player's tee shot twice.

HANDICAP
A team handicap will be established from 10% of each handicap. All handicaps must be verified with a GHIN number; unverified handicaps will result in a 0 handicap. A handicap of 28 is the maximum.

SCORING SYSTEM
The team that posts the lowest net score will set the benchmark by which teams earn points.  For example, if a net 66 is the low round, that team receives 500 points for that score.  The next low score will be awarded 450 points, and the next lowest 400 points, etc. 

BONUS POINTS
15 Points available for Closest to the Hole Contests.
15 Points available for Longest Drive Contests.

TIES
Will be broken by match of cards. Back nine score, then if still tied, hole by hole from 18.
 
TEES
Men play from White Tees and Women play from Red Tees.

PROXIMITIES
Closest to the Hole competitions on Holes #2, #6, #12 & #17.
Longest Drive competitions on Holes #5, #9, #11, #13

FISHING COMPETITION
Lines in the water at 9:00 am
Lines out of the water at 4:00 pm

Sailfish must be released. ALL hook-ups and releases (sailfish) and catches MUST be called into the Committee Boat channel 78 within the last hour of the fishing.

HONOR SYTEM GUIDELINES

  • There are no fishing boundaries, but all boats must depart from and return to the Ocean Reef Club.
  • Circle Hooks (4 degree offset or less)
  • No Chumming
  • No Hook & Hand (Person who engages the fish fights the fish)

SCORING
Fishing Points will be awarded along a sliding scale, 500 points to the team with the most sailfish released, 450 points for second place team, 400 points for third place team. Teams not placing fourth or more will receive 200 points automatically plus their bonus fish. In addition, bonus points will be awarded as follows:

  • Bonus Points – Max 3 fish per species (listed below)
    • 75 Points
      • Dolphin
      • Wahoo
      • Kingfish
      • Tuna
    • 200 Points
      • Marlin

Turn in your score sheet at the DOCK OFFICE by 5:00 pm on Wednesday - Even if your score is 0.

TIES
Will be broken by time of landing your fish.

DRESS CODE
No cargo shorts are allowed on the course or at the events. Jackets are optional, no blue jeans, and collared shirts are ok.

AWARDS
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in the Golf and Fishing competitions, and to the top team overall.
