The Dalmore distillery was founded by Alexander Matheson in 1839, but its royal heritage can be traced back to 1263 when Colin of Kintail, Chief of the Clan Mackenzie, saved Scotland’s King Alexander III from a charging stag. As a reward, the King granted the Mackenzie Clan the right to use the 12-pointed Royal Stag as their crest. When Clan descendants became owners of The Dalmore distillery in 1867, the Royal Stag became the emblem adorning each Dalmore bottle today and a reminder that Dalmore is known for setting high standards in whisky craftsmanship.
At The Dalmore, which sits on Scotland’s banks of the Cromarty Firth, it is believed that the most exceptional whiskeys are finessed in equally exceptional casks. Richard Paterson, Master Distiller, hand selects these casks, which are sourced from the finest bodegas and exclusive wineries around the world. Dalmore Scotch is aged in rare cases that are exclusive to The Dalmore and have previously held 30-year-old Matusalem oloroso sherry. These casks meld the signature chocolate and orange characters of Dalmore’s full-bodied whisky with rich and nutty flavors.
